Sopron

Sopron is situated near the western borders of Hungary, at the foot of the Alps Sopron is 60 km far from Vienna, 90 km far from Bratislava, 220 km far from Budapest offering unique possibility to roam the region.

Sopron is one of the oldest jewel boxes of the country, rewarded with European award, which unifies pas and present in itself, and presents a bridge between the country and its western neighbours, and opens a gate to those visiting the country.

The inhabitants of the city are famed for their hospitality and loyalty to their hometown. This is also symbolized by the 'Gate of Faith', which can be found on the southern side of the Firewatch Tower, the symbol of the city, and which was made in memory of the referendum of 1921.

The several thousand years of history, the abundance of unique historical buildings in the downtown, the romantic mountain environment, a sparkling cultural- and festival life have dedicated this town to be one of the most remarkable destinations of tourists in Hungary.

The territory of Sopron and the Lake Fertő is one of the notable long-standing wine growing regions of Hungary.
